There Is No Republican Party

So stop looking

Disclaimer: I was Roman Catholic until I was excommunicated because I, out of love for my mother, looked forward to the day that church would become the church she thought it was. That will never happen. I now recognize that devotion as a kind of “pitiful hopefulness” on my part. To those Republicans who are living the delusion of pitiful hopefulness that their party will become the party that they want to remember, I apologize. For you, this is intended to be tough love and I ask you to consider it with an open mind.

OK, so some Republicans have turned on Donald Trump. What does that really mean? Did the corruption of the Republican Organization begin with Trump? Are Republicans patriotic lovers of democracy who just approach problems differently?

I wrote this in my essay from 2020 entitled The Two Party State:

Consider what you might think of any organization that engaged in the following enterprises:

  1. corrupting federal law to steal public resources (land, minerals, tax revenues) for private gain
  2. promoting falsehoods and propaganda to hide activities that hurt the innocent
  3. hiding rather than exposing corruption from which they personally profit
  4. providing kickbacks through legislation to
