At Mike Johnson’s first press conference as Speaker of the House, an ABC reporter asked a question regarding the speaker’s rejection of the 2020 Presidential election results. The response was hostile and included Republican Representative Virginia Foxx shouting for the reporter to “shut up.”
In the first Biden impeachment hearing, witnesses were called who actually had no evidence at all sufficient to even suggest an impeachment. They each admitted this out loud when questioned by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Why did Republicans believe that these witnesses would testify in support of their cause sight-unseen? Why was there no vetting?
During the three week struggle to elect a Speaker for the House of Representatives, we saw example after example of inept Republican legislators blaming Democrats for their failure even though not one Republican dared to vote for the entirely competent Democrat, Hakeem Jeffries.
We may review these events and reflect upon human foibles, but there is something interesting about Republican planning and reactions. We’ve seen this sort of behavior before. Think back. The back-of-the-mind familiarity tells you…
